Virtual Reality

With our VR kits, we bring Kenya straight into the classroom. Students experience the life at a Kenyan school up close in 360° films – from the water supply to the school kitchen. The ready-to-use materials require no technical know-how and are tailored precisely to the core curricula for grades 5 to 13.

VR headsets in use in the classroom

Use in the classroom

A typical lesson begins with an introduction to living conditions in Kenya. The students then put on the VR headsets and experience the 360° film – standing right in the middle of a Kenyan school, visiting the kitchen and seeing the water tanks. Afterwards, what they experienced is reflected on in class.

Integration into the curriculum

The teaching materials cover topics such as climate change, sustainable development, spatial disparities and global justice – tailored precisely for geography and social studies classes.

Easy to use

Each VR kit contains a class set of VR headsets with preinstalled 360° films as well as ready-made teaching materials. No technical know-how needed – open the case, hand out the headsets, get started. The headsets are preconfigured and start the film automatically.

The emotional access through VR makes the issue tangible: students report that they felt as if they were standing right among the Kenyan students. This experience creates empathy and motivates them to get involved themselves.

Kit 1: Visit a Kenyan school

In the 360° film on the Oculus Go, students visit a Kenyan school and experience water tanks, roof rainwater harvesting, a farm pond, a school garden, everyday school life and a sand dam. The video is an excerpt – you can look around in every direction with the mouse.

Kit 2: Interactive

With the Meta Quest 3, Kit 2 goes far beyond a film: students move interactively through a Kenyan school, independently explore traditional three-stone fire pits and modern wood-saving school stoves, and experience firsthand how these save 100 tonnes of CO₂ per school every year.

In cooperation with the gamelab.berlin at Humboldt University of Berlin, 360° 3D footage was captured at various locations in Kenya. The VR experience enables immersive access to topics such as sustainable spatial development, water scarcity and climate protection – tailored precisely for geography lessons.
